Bellini Isabella Crib

I did a lot of research before buying the Bellini Isabella crib. What convinced me to buy it was that the Baby Bargains book gave it a very high rating and The Consumer Guide also gave it a # 1 rating. Despite a minor deficiency or two, I am very glad I bought Bellini’s Isabella.

Although I bought the Bellini Isabella, I was about to choose a Pali crib. Baby Bargains rated it a little higher than the Bellini, but I preferred the Isabella style so it won in the end. We decorated the nursery about 4 months before our baby was born; neutral colors since we did not know if it would be a boy or a girl. I wanted a modern looking crib with a simple style, as that is the style of our house. I chose the Isabella in natural beech.

I’m glad I finished nursery much earlier as we had to wait 10 weeks for the Bellini crib to arrive! The store we bought it from said this was pretty much the norm as it is a very popular crib. We also bought the matching mattress; sold separately.

Anyway, putting it together was straightforward as the instructions were easy to follow; my husband put it together in about 15 minutes, and he’s not a DIY expert. It looks perfect in the nursery. I love the slightly rounded headboard and footboard and I especially like the round legs. The “roundness” is offset by the simple flat slats on all four sides.

The cradle feels sturdy and solid, but the four caster wheels make it easy to move. You can remove the beavers and you can also block two of them to prevent it from moving. Having a storage drawer underneath is helpful too. There are four mattress height settings that are easily adjusted.

But what really impresses me about the Bellini Isabella crib is that it has two folding sides, which can be easily opened with one hand; It has a two-step safe mechanism to prevent accidental release.

The drop down sides are Isabella’s best feature, but the worst has to be the storage drawer. The overall crib construction feels strong, but the drawer is not. My husband put it perfectly when he said it was made of cardboard. Maybe it’s a little too harsh, but the drawing really feels delicate and I wonder if it will stand the test of time.

My only other criticism is not really fair. The Isabella crib costs a lot of money but it is not a convertible crib. In hindsight, maybe I should have bought a convertible from Bellini. In a few years we will buy a replacement bed.

All in all, I am very happy with our purchase of the Bellini Isabella crib. Our daughter named Agatha looks very beautiful when she sleeps in it and I think she will resist her when she is awake and climbing on it.
