Construction projects are very important aspects in modern society. It is one of the most fundamental ways in which nations build their value by creating physical assets that they can use for both economic and social benefits. For most, the benchmark of a society’s progress is the number of hospitals, roads, tunnels, buildings, bridges and infrastructure that are built in a given population. These are ultimate symbols of economic stability and progress that virtually every nation is trying to achieve these days. Other types of assets, such as cathedrals, towers, and opera houses, are built for the sole purpose of expressing the social progress of a society. This shows how important construction projects are all over the world.

Change is the only constant in a society, be it in its social context or in its economic position. There are many factors that cause change, some of them unplanned and uncontrollable, such as those resulting from natural phenomena or those that occur due to external factors. But there are also changes that are made deliberately by the societies in mind. Governments build schools, bridges, roads, and other assets to serve people. Private entities construct buildings and develop real estate to participate in economic activity. These changes come in the form of construction projects and these efforts increase the value of companies.

Construction projects have been implemented all over the world since time immemorial not only in human societies but also in the animal world. While most people would ignore the ingenuity of animals, they have long been organizing their communities to build houses and other things necessary to survive. A good example is ants who have impressive ant colonies that are built not only as a shelter but also as a breeding and feeding ground for millions of ants. Then there are the bees with their incredible hives that serve not only themselves, but other animals, including humans, who collect honey and candle wax.

Like their peers in the animal kingdom, humans are quite capable of building projects, but beyond just building out of necessity, humans build for many other reasons that make their society rich and diverse. And because of this, human society has produced amazing works out of the immeasurable number of construction projects done throughout history. The world has witnessed the rise of great wonders from the pyramids of ancient Egypt to the mighty towers of the modern world. All this has come true through construction projects.

Some people, however, criticize the seemingly overly aggressive nature of humans when it comes to carrying out construction projects. Nature advocates note that the expansion of man-made infrastructure is so rapid that it is already interfering with land functions. Perhaps there is some truth to this statement as many of man’s creative works have contributed to the declining state of the planet. Much of the pollution and degradation of the land can be attributed to the products of man’s relentless conquest to modify his environment, and this is done primarily through construction projects. As such, there must be great caution when bringing about changes in the world.

With construction projects, humans have caused great changes in the world, both good and bad. It seems that construction projects are definitely indispensable aspects of society. One can only hope that such efforts are geared towards the benefit of all.
