Christian Dior watches: a historical background of their collections

Christian Dior was born in January 1905, in Normandy, France, but soon after the family moved to Paris. It was here in Paris, the fashion capital of the world, that Dior opened its haute couture studios in the somewhat bleak postwar winter of 1947, on Avenue Montaigne. His lively spring collection was an instant hit, probably because it contrasted with the austerity of Paris during and just after World War II. Literally overnight, Dior became famous all over the world. At the time of her death in 1957 at just 52 years old, Dior counted among its high-profile clients such elegant and diverse women as Marlene Dietrich, Rita Hayworth, Eva Gardner, the Duchess of Windsor and Eva Peron. The reliability of Christian Dior watches is guaranteed by their conformity with both rigorous international technical standards and the norms associated with the “Swiss Made” designation. The conditions required for the ‘Swiss Made’ label are strict. Established in 1971, this code of practice dictates that at least half of the components used for movements, assembly, testing and control of movements and, finally, assembly, adjustment, time setting and control of the watch in their entirety must be made in Switzerland.
