Paranormal terminology – What is a ghost?

Simply put, ghosts are disembodied spirits that reside in the ethereal world, but I’m sure you didn’t come here to read something that you could have easily found in a dictionary or encyclopedia. Actually, not all ghosts are disembodied; most have never incarnated in the first place. In fact, there are all kinds of ghosts, also known as spirit beings, in the universe; some of whom have not even ventured near our corner of our corporeal universe.

in the earthly tradition; Western civilizations often think of haunting possession (evil spirits), divine intervention (angels), God (Holy Ghost), and/or Casper (the friendly ghost) when it comes to ethereal forms of existence. Of course, Casper probably wouldn’t be considered a true apparition in the context of the others, but he has nonetheless given many of us our first initial exposure to this paranormal phenomenon, albeit in a comedic sense.

types of ghosts
The ghost variety is a long laundry list; however, the following is a condensed version of the most common types you may encounter.

1. Human spirit: our personal identity that resides within us (our soul) that passes after death and remains on earth (ghostly apparition) or ascends to the company of others in heaven (spirit).

As spirits or ghosts, we can appear in our natural form as brightly colored balls of light with two dark orbs (eyes), or take on our more familiar earthly appearance. Of course, our spirit can project any way it pleases, but these two are the most common.

has. Spirit guides: experienced souls who after their death return to offer assistance to the living. His presence is very passive in nature, remaining in the background while offering insights and subtle advice such as a soft whisper or gentle touch.

b. Wraiths: Another name for ghosts or earthly spirits.

against Poltergeists – literally means “Noisy Spirit”. These are extremely unhappy ghosts that cause movement of objects, sudden and unexplained noises, and general havoc.

2. Angels: In the strictest sense, angels are spiritual beings who have never lived in corporeal form. They are like being the breath of creation or God, each existing for its own purpose. Angels are similar to the embodiment of pure light that is devoid of any stain of adversity; the purest form of God’s creation.

To say that angels are servants of God is a bit of a misnomer since the servitude of slave and master does not exist, rather angels are more closely related to the incarnation of the creator. The fact is that the notion of smaller or larger than that is more unique to human concepts of measurement than to celestial reality.

3. Evil spirits: without darkness there can be no light; darkness is the contrast upon which lighting casts its brilliance and is the shadow that defines our lighting.

has. Demons – The dark side or shadowy element of angels, these are malevolent spirits that can inflict extreme damage both mentally and physically. Never try to deal with a demon unless you have been specifically trained to do so.

Just like angels, demons share all the possibilities and purposes that angels possess only as polar opposites. For example, the archangel Michael resembles God; therefore, Lucifer (angel of light) is the polar opposite of Michael. While Michael lives in harmony and guards the throne of God, Lucifer lives in chaos seeking to destroy him.

b. Shadow People – Dark entities that appear as shadows. Although they are generally not physically malevolent, they can wreak havoc on the immediate environment. The reason they are called shadow people is due to the fact that they appear as black or dark gray energy without light while projecting a human form. Shadow people are not demons, but they are more akin to trickster-type energy.

Why do ghosts haunt the living?
Ghosts may refuse to move on for a variety of reasons; the most common of them is an overly obsessive attachment to this world and seeing it as their only point of refuge. Also common to these earth-bound spirits is an unusually intense anger at unresolved issues that have left them bitter.

For the ghost, the world they experienced as humans has never ceased to exist for them; they inhabit a realm of grievances and endless streams punctuated by occasional visits from unwanted intruders. For them, we are the enigma and they are acting according to reality. When they stalk, they are literally trapped in a setting that replicates the world they lived in long ago and their reactions to intruders are much the same as ours to a burglar or thief.

On the other hand, some ghosts can be quite passive and benign. These ghosts have usually passed by unexpectedly and reside in a world of confusion and uncertainty. From time to time they may do subtle things like making small noises or any other playful act to get attention. For them the world is strange and their antics are just a way of saying: “I’m here, what’s wrong with me?”. or “I’m here, let’s play.”

Get rid of an unwanted ghost
A few years ago, I was in a dark room developing a film when I felt a strange presence of confusion and anger. When I asked the spirit why he was there, I received images indicating that he had died unexpectedly during a medical procedure that left him angry and trapped in the area of his unexpected death.

After understanding the circumstances, I assured the spirit that all was well and encouraged it to step into the light that it would soon see. Shortly after I felt a peaceful presence; an assurance that all was at peace. Later that week, I returned to the dark room to find it devoid of the strange sensation I had felt before; the haunting spirit was now nowhere to be found.

The best way to get rid of an unwanted ghost can be as simple as I mentioned above or you can seek the professional advice and assistance of a trained paranormal investigator or psychic medium. Most of the time, a trained investigator or psychic will be more adept at connecting with that spirit and guiding it into the light without much difficulty. In some cases, handling it yourself and not knowing what you’re dealing with can have disastrous consequences.

Ghost Busters
People who communicate with ghosts are commonly called spiritualists or mediums, while those who investigate the places they haunt are called ghost hunters. While I can appreciate the natural curiosity of modern day “ghostbusters”, the fact that they are prone to taunting and goading them into making their presence known is a bit unsettling. These spirits live in a world that already mocks them; a realm of disharmony and isolation.

If you plan to become a ghost hunter, do so with at least a great deal of caution and always with the utmost respect. For the inexperienced, the spirit world can be very confusing, to say the least. Although it can be personally rewarding to check out its existence, in some cases it can end up way over your head before you know it. Always seek the advice of trained specialists who know what they are doing, and while watching a television show can be entertaining, it is not a substitute for reality.

conclusion
Ghosts come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, as well as a variety of flavors, just like their human counterparts. Although most of what you can find in the spirit realm may be benign in nature, it is best to err on the side of caution before attempting to outwit these supernatural beings.

There are all kinds of rituals available that anyone can use to contact, banish, or investigate a ghostly presence. It is important to remember that a ritual is only a guide to setting the correct intentions to perform a task successfully; if you attempt a ritual on your own or without proper help, you may end up with something you never intended to do.

Finally, if your intention is to provoke a ghostly presence to make itself known, don’t do it. Rather, learn to communicate with them as if you were a dear friend; with respect and care. The energies of your intentions are easily picked up in the spiritual realm, so much so that you might say, “They can see right through you.”
