Volumetric clouds are fullscreen shaders that allow you to add realistic volumetric clouds to your scene. You can also fly through them or interact with them using the plugin’s event system. This plugin also features numerous parameters to control their quality, speed, and appearance. It also includes four built-in presets for various weather conditions.

The volumetric clouds plug-in requires two RenderTextures: one to store the result of the rendering, and one to store the depth. These two RenderTextures are set using the SetTextureFromUnity API. These two RenderTextures are then loaded into the scene and rendered.

Volumetric clouds are a great way to create realistic skies and skylines. They are easily applied to your project and use state-of-the-art shaders to deliver high quality visuals. These clouds react to ambient light, directional light, and lightning, so they can be seamlessly integrated into your game. You can easily adjust the amount of scattering effects by adjusting the Multi Scattering Approximation Octaves parameter. This will enable you to simulate multiple scattering effects from different angles through a cloud volume. This will improve the overall quality of the atmosphere by reducing visual artifacts and high-frequency details.

The Cloud Control panel is displayed when the user chooses the Advanced or Custom modes. The first parameter is Cloud Curvature, which defines the distance at which clouds intersect the horizon, while the second one, Cloud Density Distance, controls how far the clouds fade in or out.

Another option to adjust the amount of shadows is the Ray Marched setting. This mode allows you to change the distance of shadows, but it has a few drawbacks. It has far less resolution than volumetric clouds, but it works well enough for cloud shadows when viewed from the ground. This option is recommended for console platforms, since it is faster to render.

One limitation of Volumetric Clouds is that it does not support Ray Tracing. In other words, if you plan on using the volumetric clouds in a ray-traced game, you’ll need to enable this setting. Otherwise, the volumetric clouds will not render at full resolution.

Another advantage of volumetric clouds is that they can cast shadows. Unlike the standard cloud model, volumetric clouds use a different cookie for shadow casting directional light. This means that they override the cookie for the Cloud Layer shadow.
