When and why you should call a wildlife removal company

All people encounter wildlife on a daily basis. Sitting on your porch in the morning, you can see squirrels scampering through the trees and hear the birds singing their songs. When driving home at night, you may see deer and the occasional fox along the road. But when this wildlife invades your living space, it can be downright dangerous, not to mention terribly uncomfortable.

Some problems that can arise include:

  • Damage to property
  • Spread of the disease
  • The death of a beloved pet.
  • Injury to both children and adults
  • Loss of livelihoods of farmers or ranchers
  • High levels of anxiety for the owner.
  • Disruption of daily routines.
  • Inability to use parts of your home or property safely

While most problems have associated pros and cons, there is no single benefit to having a wildlife infestation. The key is knowing when to call a professional wildlife removal company, so the problem doesn’t get out of hand. To do this, homeowners must be aware of the warning signs of wildlife infiltration.

Signs of unwanted wildlife in the home

The most obvious sign of unwanted wildlife is visual confirmation. If you see a coyote running through your backyard at night, hear birds in your attic, or see a mouse running across your kitchen floor, you know there is a problem that needs to be fixed. But by the time you’ve had visual confirmation, the problem has already started to spiral out of control.

If you pay attention, there are subtle clues that indicate you may have a problem. Some of the more common signs outside of visual confirmation include:

  • Droppings left by rodents, bats, or birds
  • Large holes dug under the fence, barn, chicken coop, or foundation of the house
  • Strange noises can be heard that cannot be assigned to any other source
  • Your roof tiles may show signs of damage
  • Footprints are found on the roof or grass
  • A strange (possibly pungent) odor persists without an identifiable cause
  • Holes known as “burrows” appear around your garden
  • If you have cattle, a sure sign of coyotes is finding blood or skeletal remains.

One final sign that many people fail to recognize is that the pets in your home, primarily cats and dogs, are beginning to act strange. These animals have an exaggerated sense of smell that allows them to pick up the scent of infested wildlife. Dogs can bark at what appears to be nothing or scratch at walls. They can act aggressively at night when pointed at a door or window. Cats can hiss, show signs of anxiety, and begin to “urinate” in the house.

What to do if you think you have a problem

If you have noticed any of the above signs that wildlife may be a problem in your home, you should call a certified wildlife removal company, preferably one that practices exclusion as their primary method of solving the problem. It is important that you act quickly because of the many problems that unwanted wildlife could pose for your family, pets, property, and even potentially your livelihood.
