Most of us have been taught to believe that economics is something that only experts can “fix.” Witness how large segments of the American population wander depressed, scared, depressed, wondering how and when our president and chief treasury will rescue us.

I also used to believe that I had no control over the economy.

Then I realized that I am my own economy. That the economy is not out there, it is inside of me. It’s how I feel about myself and the greatness I have to offer.

To make your own economy, you must seek within yourself the greatness that was put on the planet to share, the practical knowledge that others yearn for. Once you can discover and unleash that greatness, you will have everything you need to do your own economy.

I liken the quest for her own economy to Dorothy’s journey in “The Wizard of Oz.” Dorothy spends most of her “history” looking outside herself for ways to get home. She believes that she is powerless, that only others have the power to bring her back to Kansas. Spend a lot of time with other people who also feel helpless. Then, towards the end of the movie, when Dorothy thinks she missed the last way home, she asks Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, to help her. Glinda says:

“You don’t need help anymore. You’ve always had the power to go back to Kansas.”

“I have?” says Dorothy.

“Then why didn’t you tell him earlier?” demands the scarecrow.

“Because she wouldn’t have believed me. She had to learn it herself.”

The same goes for the economy. You have to learn for yourself that you have always had the power to do your own economy. You have to find your inner ruby business slippers and click them together three times.
