Bathing your baby the right way from the start will teach him to trust you as a parent and to look forward to bath time and general personal care.

Every mother-to-be begins to prepare the stock for her newborn and buying a new bathtub for the baby is no exception. There are so many baby bathtubs on the market today, but which one to choose? First of all, you should consider the baby’s comfort, but you should also consider your own comfort, especially if you suffer from back problems.

Baby bathtubs are small and designed to fit the general shape of the baby. They are semi-reclining which helps support the baby by keeping it in a slightly seated position. However, you need to hold and support the baby at all times – this is extremely important. You do this by putting your arm around the baby’s back and holding it under your armpit.

Tubs are usually made of hard plastic, some have a bit of padding on the inside for comfort. Also, some baby bathtubs have a bar or strap to keep the baby in position, but I’m not a big fan of these as they can rub against the baby and you still have to hold on no matter if you use a strap or bar. Most of them are slip proof, but again, don’t take this as 100% safe for your baby.

Smaller baby tubs are easy to store and can be used on a bath stand, kitchen bench, or on the floor. Having the toilet on a stand or bench would be a good idea as you won’t have to bend over which causes major back problems. The other type of bathtub is the one that fits on the edge of your own bathtub. For this to happen, the baby’s tub needs to have a wide rim so it stretches to the width of your own tub.

These tubs have a small drain at the bottom and the water can easily be drained back into the main tub. You can sit in a chair or kneel by the tub and bathe the baby this way. However, because they are extra wide, they are a bit of a pain to store. You can leave it in your own bathroom to save storage space.

Now is the time to dry your baby in one of those cute baby onesies that have a hood to keep the baby’s head covered and warm.
