Track E is an effective way to secure cargo on a closed trailer. Here’s how you can easily install it on a wood paneled trailer. This example uses a 1/8 “thick horizontal rail with 1/4” diameter mounting holes.

The first step is to look for wall studs inside the trailer. A standard way to detect them is by checking the screws that hold the panels in place. The screws will attach to the studs on the wall.

Most wall studs on trailers are about two inches wide. Knowing that should help you find the center of the stud, and each stud is generally spaced about two feet apart. When installing the rail, make sure it is as flat on the wood as possible and is evenly spaced over the studs.

To secure the rail to the wall as you work, mark a couple of holes and start by putting in a couple of temporary screws.

Number 12 screws are your best option for permanent connection. Just make sure the holes line up with the wall brackets before continuing. It shouldn’t be too difficult. In a standard trailer setup, if one hole lines up, the rest will line up too.

Keep in mind that the outside wall is only a couple of inches apart, so you’ll want to mark your bit so you don’t go too far.

Once the electronic rail is attached to the wall, attach a tether strap and pull it to make sure it is secure before attempting to secure your cargo.

Many people ask what is the best height and location for the electronic track. The answer is that it depends on what you want to protect. For a refrigerator, medium height would be fine. For a motorcycle, you may want to install the track on the floor and secure the straps to each handlebar. So the location really depends on the job at hand.
