The Twenty20 format of cricket has been booming in India. After the success in the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup Cricket Tournament in South Africa, ICL and IPL further promote the T20 format in India. These two leagues have some similarities and differences and the hottest topic of discussion for everyone is IPL Vs ICL.

The Indian Cricket League (ICL) has been launched by Kapil Dev to promote this newer and faster version of cricket. ICL failed to gain approval from the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and was condemned as a “revolutionary” affair.

The other cricket boards were in no position to bother the BCCI and it appeared that the players participating in the league would have to compromise their international careers. ICL promoters then tried to convince the ICC to recognize their tournament, but the governing body found itself in a difficult situation.

But just a few months later, BCCI launched its own tournament, namely the Indian Premier League (IPL), similar to the ICL. It has started with great players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Murlitharan, Hayden, Symonds, Ponting and many top international players.

The next important feature is that IPL had a limited number of teams to start with their auction. This really brought money to the league and to the players through big names like Mukesh Ambani, Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Vijay Mallya etc.

The ICL has proven to be a huge success despite the lack of support from the BCCI, but the IPL has become a huge blockbuster. This cricket season turned out to be fantastic for cricketers and their supporters. IPL and ICL have been doing a fantastic job for the promotion of the game.

IPL Vs ICL had made the game lovers more passionate about the Twenty20 format. It doesn’t matter if it’s the IPL or the ICL.
