The subversive patterns of our lives elude us! We look directly at them and miss the contingency of their blatant meaning and form. We search everywhere for answers, interpretations, resolutions and resources. Anywhere other than where we currently reside. We stumble, we worry, we worry, we complain. Meanwhile, we imagine all sorts of things, never once paying attention to the obvious clues that stare at us “punching in the face.” Why? Because we don’t want to see what’s there. We do not want to solve the so-called problems that make up our cherished dilemmas. Why? Because we really don’t want anything to change. We have become so used to our self-inflicted misery and delusional projected pain; we don’t want to let go.

No matter how hard we try, we can’t talk enough or complain loud enough to convince ourselves that we’re being treated unfairly. No matter what elaborate lengths we go to in the process of defending ourselves, when the ‘mule returns to the barn’, not one iota of our life is disturbed. We rebuked the other with disparaging sarcastic comments; cause all kinds of chaos and confusion simply because we don’t know what we want to do with ourselves. We don’t have a single inkling of who we are, much less what we say. We blame the one who confronts us for our own deluge of dejected despair.

It is a desperate and degrading pit to be swallowed into, and more especially for the unsuspecting partner. The belligerent attitude, the nasty temper, the unforgiving mouth just sets the stage for the onslaught of guilt and regret to engulf our minds. We don’t know how to be still. Be quiet. Stop yelling long enough to see: “there’s nothing really wrong.” Everything is perfect at the moment. But we don’t want to hear those words! Our minds are filled with enough charges and slander to fill the Grand Canyon and then some. We have to give him a break. That old horse has been ridden too many times and kept wet to the point of cruelty.

The problem lies in the fact that we cannot resolve our own vaguely mistaken feelings. We say we want something and before the order can be delivered we have changed our minds. We are constantly ‘on guard’ looking for reasons to lash out. Our moods change abruptly, and without warning, we decide to shop at another store or eat at a restaurant. We say we want all the attention, and yet we turn around and declare that “we’re being suffocated.” We are bored and expect our partners to entertain us! What is the deal?

Bottom line: our soul is clearly speaking to us through all the misunderstood and misaligned signs. We are genuinely happy with our state of affairs. “Nothing could be different than it is. We’re exactly where we’re supposed to be for reasons we can’t see.” Not only is there no place to run and hide; there is no reason to try. This is as good as it gets. The best show in town comes to our house and we are the producer, director and star. Not a single soul is doing us wrong, cheating on us, lying to us, abandoning us or rejecting us. {In fact, no one has ever done it.} We would like to think that because we want to believe that we are so ‘special’. But whoever told us we were special was seriously misinformed.

Being special entails a life separate from the one we have. We visualize another time, place, partner and circumstance where we are the rulers of our kingdoms without problems, anxieties or complications. No obstacles, no heartaches, no waiting, misunderstandings, hurt feelings, and the like. There is no such place on earth. WE ARE just ordinary people living an extraordinary life with all its many flavorful surprises undiscovered and avenues of expression unresolved.

Unearthed talent cries out in the desert (the chaos and confusion we create) for a more recognized place in our lives. We are too busy and tired of selfless projects, we keep fulfilling. (We are engaged in things that no longer interest us in the slightest.) We invest ourselves in anything that keeps us permanently distracted from our deepest yearnings to ‘just be content’. and productive creative sublimely sacred artistic sexual lives, cries of verification in a relentless “still small voice.”

We can see; we have eyes we can hear; we have ears. We can smell; we have noses We can walk: we have legacies. We can write, paint, draw; we have hands WE can sing; we have voices We can LOVE; we have hearts WE can think; we have brain. We can make love; we are equipped We can create for ourselves any life we imagine because we are a facsimile of the divine. So what are we really complaining about? Perhaps because we have TOO MUCH and need to disperse some of the excess? (Time, knowledge, energy, money, leftover baggage, old hurts, junk memories, unused talent, sexual frustration, unfulfilled desires, and worn-out gossip)
