Anyone who can take a look at a map of the United States will clearly see that Texas is huge. If you’ve ever heard the saying, “Everything is bigger in Texas,” it has a lot to do with the physical size of the state, but then again, just about anything you can think of can be “the size of Texas,” which includes their parties.

It seems strange to imagine a festival being big, but when have you ever heard someone clamor for a small festival? It doesn’t sound exactly the same. Also, festival planners in Texas tend to enjoy the ability to be ambitious with their plans because there don’t seem to be any physical limitations holding them in check. This, of course, results in some really cool festivals in Texas that set them apart from the rest of the country.

If you’re in the mood for a festival the size of Texas, here are seven Texas festivals you’ll love:

Brenham Friendship Quilt Guild “Quilt Show” – For about a quarter of a century, Brenham, TX has hosted this quilt exhibit with just a few hundred visitors. As the arts and crafts scene has exploded, so has show attendance with numbers only tending to rise.

HEB “Fireworks in the Arms” – Celebrate the birth of the USA in the same place, Washington, at the Brazos State Historic Site, “Where Texas Became Texas.” It’s fun for the whole family.

Chappell Hill Christmas Fair – For some people, Christmas is a year-round thing, and in Chappell Hill, TX, the Christmas Fayre is the star on the treetop to celebrate the holidays! Highlights include a teddy bear parade and, of course, hanging out with Santa Claus.

Spirit of Texas Festival in College Station – Enjoy three days of free family fun for all ages. Proceeds from the event go to support local charities. Visitors can enjoy all things Texas, music, art, crafts and even barbecue and food truck contests.

Charro Days – Brownsville, TX in the Rio Grande Valley is the home of Charro Days. It is considered the oldest cultural celebration in the state and provides a unique perspective on the indisputable link between Texas and Mexico.

Texas Music and Arts Festival in downtown Brenham, TX– The new kid on the block for festivals on this list, this festival last took place in 2016 and included art walks, street performers, live music, and a film screening. It’s small, but what better way for a festival goer to get on the ground floor of something big than to get an early start on its kickoff?

South by Southwest (SXSW) – SXSW serves as an example of how a festival can start small and grow into one of the great destinations. Every year the eyes of the world are focused on Austin, TX as it proves to everyone that it truly is the “Live Music Capital of the World”.

This list of Texas festivals covers quite a bit of ground in terms of various offerings, but we’ve only scratched the surface. With a state as large as Texas, something happens almost every week of the year in various cities. You may find that the best way to experience the Lone Star State in all its glory is to see its citizens having fun at a festival the only way they know how: Texas style!
