Christmas is a very stressful time of the year, but more than that is the New Year. While people tried to fake their way through the holidays by buying gifts they can’t afford for people they only see once a year. Once the new year rolls around, so will the Christmas bills. Just when he thought he couldn’t be more broke in December, he realizes he can when he gets a bunch of bills he can’t pay. This is a cycle that happens to most of the American middle class every year. When we should be enjoying the true meaning of Christmas, we are more concerned with going to parties and spending money we don’t have and going deeper into debt. This is when people should really take a hard look at their lives and make the important changes necessary to get out of debt and be debt free. This seems to be impossible for most people, but sometimes filing for bankruptcy can be what the doctor ordered.

The holiday season is a tumultuous time, and it’s no surprise that filing for bankruptcy is a very stressful time. What most people don’t realize is that the stress they’re already under before they file for bankruptcy is probably much worse than the entire legal process. It’s like having surgery, many times they worry, this is much worse for them than the procedure and the recovery. People should keep in mind that these difficult times will not last forever and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Especially if all of the debt is going to be wiped out in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy discharge. Sure credit may be a bit tight initially after the bankruptcy discharge, but even that will come back to those who stayed diligent to get their finances back on track. . It’s silly to stress about the unknown because we don’t know what the next day will bring. Live one day at a time and when it gets really bad, one hour at a time. My mom always told me that 90% of everything you worry about never happens, so why worry?

There are a few ways to take the stress out of filing for bankruptcy. One way is to call your bankruptcy attorney and ask the questions that concern you. Many times, getting answers to those bankruptcy questions will ease your fears and help you sleep better. Another thing is not to insist on the problems. Sometimes just calling a close friend and venting all your worries is enough. If necessary, try taking a walk and clearing your head. If you don’t mind working out, go to the gym for a few hours and work out. It is a well known fact that exercise helps with depression as it sends endorphins to the brain. During this difficult time, learn to enjoy music and the outdoors. Sometimes it’s nice to just grab a book and sit under a tree and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. My dad always said that when you’re upset go do a chore like wash your car and you’ll have a sense of accomplishment in your life.

The bottom line is that worrying only leads to more stress and if you need to file for bankruptcy, you can’t help it, so you’ll need to make the most of it. Sit back and look ahead to the positives of filing for bankruptcy, like starting to become debt-free once again. Being debt free has become a lifestyle that people think is old school. The truth is that it is much better than being buried in debt.
