Two of the most common mistakes both newcomers and newbies make when setting up an online business are not saving files correctly and not organizing and maintaining project folders for each website creation.

Once you understand the importance of these simple and straightforward processes, they will serve you well, saving you time, headaches, and wasted effort searching for things. More importantly, it will help you keep your sanity as you start to amass a large number of websites and various online projects and campaigns.

While this may sound like a very boring subject, trust me: once you get serious about it and put it into practice, anytime you need to save or create a folder, you’ll be more than glad you took the time to learn the process. Your goal is to make saving files and creating project folders a habit that will serve you well in the long run.

Most of you have had a situation where you needed to find something that you created; they know they saved it “somewhere” on their computer, but couldn’t remember if they saved it to their desktop, c-drive, or sent it to their personal email account – they searched and searched and couldn’t find it.

That was me several months ago before I started organizing my online business, this situation has happened way too many times and is one of the most frustrating time wasters imaginable.

Most of us are short on time, and if you have a day job and only an hour or two to work on your online business when you get home at night, the last thing you want to do is waste precious time searching for a file. which should have saved correctly the first time.

There are TWO very important reasons to save files correctly!

If you do not save your files correctly, the files and images you save may not appear on your web page. Now I’m sure you don’t want that to happen, speaking unprofessional, which is certainly not how you want your website visitors to present themselves.

When you take the time to properly save your files, they’ll be easy to locate on your computer, so again, a huge time saver.

To learn how to save files, just go online, type ‘how to save a file’ and the world of saving files is at your service, providing details for Windows ME or XP, or Apple OS X.

Creating a project file will ensure good management of your online business

All of your web page content needs to be saved in one location and it’s easy to do.

First, get in the habit of ALWAYS creating a project file for every website you build. Once the project file is created, ALL and i mean ALL belonging to that web page to include its images, files, photos, links all go to the project file for that web page project.

Once each website project is centralized, when it’s time to update or work on that website, the file is immediately available – everything you need is at your fingertips.

How sweet is that?

For your online marketing success.
